What Is 2nd Grade DOL?
Daily Oral Language (DOL) is a structured grammar warm-up used in K-8 classrooms across the country. In 2nd grade, DOL focuses on the foundational skills students are just beginning to own: capitalizing proper nouns and sentence beginnings, using periods correctly, and placing basic commas where they belong.
Each morning, a sentence with deliberate errors appears on the board. Students find and fix every mistake before the class reviews the corrections together. The daily repetition is the point. Grammar rules that get practiced every day become habits that show up in student writing.
DOL Daily is the free online version. A new sentence every morning.

Second grade is where foundational grammar habits form. DOL exercises at this level target the rules students are expected to apply independently by the end of the year:
How DOL Daily Works as a 2nd Grade Grammar Game
DOL Daily is a free online grammar game that runs the same warm-up exercise used in classrooms every day, right in a browser with no setup required. A new error-filled sentence posts each morning. Players use the built-in markup tools to fix every mistake: capitalize a word, add a period, correct a comma. Three wrong submissions and it's game over.
It's built for parents who want free grammar practice for a 2nd grader at home, teachers who want a daily warm-up alongside their class, and students building their skills outside school. Learn more about Daily Oral Language.
